Graphs for Network Observability & CyberSecurity

Graphs for Network Observability & CyberSecurity

Graph Database Sydney is back with another in-person meetup with 3 awesome speakers and 2 interesting topics. Please find the detailed agenda below:

6:00 – 6:45 PM

Talk #1

 – GraphIT: Network Observability using Neo4j

Talk Description:

Modelling Commbank’s network architecture in Neo4j’s graph software has proved intuitive and efficient. Disparate data sources have been collated into a single database, streamlining knowledge discovery initiatives across the bank. Combined with real-time network telemetry, this has reinforced Commbank’s cybersecurity posture, and accelerated its migration to public cloud. Come learn about our data pipeline surrounding Neo4j, and Neo4j’s emergent use cases throughout our journey.

Speakers:

Paul Ganzon, Principal Engineer @ Commonwealth Bank of Australia

Paul is a software engineer working on providing network observability for CBA. He develops and maintains our end-to-end data pipeline, as well as our Neo4j cluster. (LinkedIn)

Jackson Zheng, Senior Data Engineer @ Commonwealth Bank of Australia

Jackson is a software engineer, working with Neo4j in CBA for 2 years. He’s primarily responsible for data modeling in our team. This involves synthesizing data from various data sources, to represent the data intuitively in Neo4j. (LinkedIn)

6:45 PM – 7:30 PM

Talk #2:

Hackers think in graphs…. how defenders can too!

Speaker:

Darren Wood, Senior Pre-Sales Consultant @ Neo4j

 (LinkedIn)

Talk Description:

With several of Australia’s most damaging cyber attacks occurring over the past few months, it has become apparent that traditional approaches for managing threats are no longer adequate.

Cybercriminals view systems and networks like a graph, they enumerate attack paths, often using a complex series of exploits in different layers to seek out valuable assets and data. This presentation shows how similar strategies can be leveraged by defenders to model a complex network of interacting vulnerabilities as a graph and use graph data science to highlight key areas of weakness.

7:30 PM – 8:00 PM: Networking over snacks
